U-19s Soccer Report:  Dunshaughlin CC 0 – 9 De La Salle College

De La Salle’s Under-19’s soccer squad stormed through the preliminary round of the Leinster Senior Shield with a convincing 9-0 victory over Dunshaughlin Community College on Tuesday morning. The home team played with heart, but the cohesiveness of the De La Salle midfield and strong individual performances throughout the Lasallian squad proved too much for the Meath side.

Kyle Callan opened the scoring early, tapping home an inch-perfect cross from Rhy’s O’Hare who posed a constant threat down the right flank. Shortly before half time, Liam McCabe, playing as a lone striker, was hacked down inside the box, earning a penalty for the De La Salle, which was expertly finished by O’Hare.

Minutes into the second half, McCabe headed Kyle Callan’s cross straight into the path of Dominik Pawelkiewics, who finished coolly with his left foot. Two minutes later, Michael Dubilovics scrambled the ball across the line, following a poorly defended corner, to make it 4-0 De La Salle. On 57 minutes, Liam McCabe headed home from close range before slotting the ball between the ‘keeper’s legs for a second, seven minutes later.

Super-sub Owen Mc Gahon scored a precision header, from Lee Casey’s floating dead-ball delivery, on 75 minutes, and then another on 85′, assisted by Rhys O’Hare. Seconds later, O’Hare made a darting run through the middle of the pitch, dribbling past several players before finishing effortlessly through a cluster of scrambling defenders.
