Under 15 Football – Cup Thriller!
De La Salle 3-3 St. Mel’s College (De La Salle win 4-2 on penalties).
Congratulations to the De La Salle Under 15s who have progressed into the Second Round of the Leinster Cup after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over St. Mel’s College, Longford!
Match Action
Massimo Ngene opened the scoring after a skillful turn and shot following an Aidan Soraghan cross. Captain Kyle Woods then doubled the lead with a clinical low shot from the edge of the box, assisted by Nathan Kelly after a powerful run down the right.
However, St. Mel’s made the away side work hard and managed to take the lead in the second half. Midfielder Tom Johnston then delivered a dangerous corner, which defender Reece Grimes met with a bullet header to score the crucial equaliser. The game went to extra time, with the Dundalk side applying pressure, including a close overhead kick from Massimo Ngene.
Penalty Shootout
The Dundalk side proved victorious in the penalty shootout, thanks to goalkeeper Arron Kinahan who made a fine save on St. Mel’s second attempt. De La Salle showed nerves of steel, scoring four from four: Kyle Woods, Nathan Kelly, Harry Quinlivan, and Tom Johnston all converted!
A special mention for midfielder Aidan Soraghan who put in a Man of the Match display after a tireless performance! The Under 15s now progress into the next round of the Leinster Cup and will face St. Joseph’s Rochfortbridge.
