On the 3rd of April this year, TY Green Schools and Ms Hoyne were one of 65 school groups in Ireland who took part in a national River Eco study run by the environmental organisation GLOBE.
The aim of the project was for students and teachers to be trained online in using scientific methodology to collect data that would help organisations such as GLOBE, EPA, and even NASA to assess the health of rivers across Ireland.
Ms Johnston, Ms O Hare and Ms Sherlock as well as 3 Padraig joined the TY GS class in collecting data on temperature, pH, nitrates and phosphates from the Castletown River. They were also selected to perform an invertebrates study. The students worked in groups to collect the data themselves and even did a litter pick in the area.
Well done to everyone involved.
