Mr. McKeon and Mr. Ó Náraigh had the honour of finally presenting to our All Ireland Irish Debating Finalists. In March 2020 history was made-for the first time De La Salle College had both Junior and Senior teams in the All-Ireland final. Unfortunately, as a result of the pandemic the final was unable to take place, however, this did not take away from both of our Teams being Regional Champions for 2019-2020.Our Junior and Senior Irish Debating Teams took part in the school’s ninth consecutive Gael Linn Regional Final in a bid to reach the All-Ireland Final for the third time. Our Junior Team of Tom Cunniffe, Fiachra McCormick, Finn Connolly and Andrew McKay, as well as our Senior Team of Ruairí MacCloscaí, Matthew Geraghty and Donnchadh Hughes overcame a number of teams and motions to reach this stage. The debate took place on Wednesday 3/3/20 in St. Patrick’s Classical School Navan . The Juniors debated the motion ‘Tá áit go fóill ag an reiligiún i saol an déagóra in Éirinn!’ against the motion, while our Senior Team considered the motion, ‘Tá na meáin chumarsáide thraidisiúnta cloíte ag na meáin shóisialta!’, finding themselves in favour. The judges agreed and they defeated teams from near and far on the night, with fine displays from all of our speakers. We were delighted to be able to present specially commissioned medals and certificates to the teams, before our Senior Team departed for University. Go n-éirí an bóthar libh!
